“The KPI has enabled me to go deep with clients and enjoy doing it. I can help clients see the deeper story beneath their behaviors. I like looking at patterns and holding them up for the clients’ inquiry. When I hold it as such, I don’t get attached to the story and stay connected to the client.”

– BILL PULLEN, FORMER HEAD OF THE GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY LEADERSHIP COACHING PROGRAM AND INSTITUTE FOR TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP

What Are the Key Polarities You’ll Learn to Navigate with the KPI Certification?

You’ll learn how to harness both sets of polarities—Human and Leadership KPIs. This program will guide you in understanding and leveraging these foundational polarities to enhance your decision-making and actions.

By the end of the four days, you’ll be equipped to implement Both/And leadership, enabling you to navigate polarities and complexities with greater balance and effectiveness.

Human KPI

These six key polarities are at play in each of us, in any role and any relationship.

trusting that I am whole and good enough
accepting and sharing my imperfection and humanity
taking care of oneself
caring about others
having confidence in the positivity of what will come
being in touch with things as they actually are
operating with sincere and earnest conviction
being carefree and operating free of constraint
hungering for more
seeing the full worth of something as it is
taking action and feeling answerable to yourself and others
letting go of pain, allowing second chances, and opening to love

Leadership KPI

There are six key polarities leaders need to navigate for effective leadership.

being in motion, doing something
contemplating what was, is, and could be
existing or operating consistently
making or becoming different
raising the bar and provoking learning
encouraging others and building confidence
conveying one’s expertise, ideas, and know-how
conveying one’s care and openness
being concerned about the work to be performed
being concerned about the connection with others
providing guidance, authority, and focus
giving others authority and freedom to operate

What Tools Will You Learn To Use with the KPI Certification?

Use the power of the Polarity Navigator and the Key Polarity Indicator to delve into your unique preferences and patterns. You’ll learn to integrate identity, vulnerability, and transformation, helping to enhance your coaching.

Polarity Navigator

KPI Polarity Navigator

The Polarity Navigator will expand Both/And thinking for individuals and teams.

You’ll learn to interpret and apply the KPI in coaching and consulting, using polarities for horizontal and vertical development.

You’ll use the tools and exercises to explore preferences, behaviors, identity, and vulnerability to create a unique head::heart approach.

Polarity Maps

The KPI Report features polarity maps for each key polarity.

These behavioral maps identify what happens when a person navigates the polarities well or not so well.

They give insights into where a leader may be effective or struggling, depending on how they navigate each polarity.

The KPI Wheel (Both/And Model)

The KPI wheel is a dynamic model built on the 6 key polarities (centre of wheel) and shows the practical ways polarities contribute to overall success.

The KPI recognizes that mindsets drive our actions and actions drive our results. Each pole of a polarity is like a mindset we must adopt to access certain actions and generate specific results.

The KPI model provides a way for leaders to identify areas in which adopting a both/and mindset would expand their impact.

The Outer Ring

The Outer Ring contains three essential responsibilities that contribute to our fulfilment and success.

The Middle Ring

The Middle Ring contains six capabilities needed to deliver on the results of the outer ring.

The Inner Ring

The Inner Ring contains the poles of the six key polarities people have to navigate. Each pole is like a mindset and contributes to or detracts from a person’s ability to demonstrate the capabilities in the middle ring, and the impact of the outer ring.

Key Polarity Indicator Sample Wheels

KPI Visual 3a 1

Human Wheel

Key Polarity: Responsibility::Forgiveness This individual strongly prefers Responsibility, viewing themselves as “the reliable one.” They excel in taking ownership but may struggle to show empathy when others fall short. To avoid feeling burdened, they should balance strength with compassion, enhancing their leadership and achieving greater inner peace.
KPI Visual 3b 1

Leadership Wheel

Shortened: Key Polarity: Challenge::Support This leader prefers Challenge over Support, inspiring others to achieve more and encouraging risk-taking. They may push too hard under stress, risking burnout. By balancing challenge with support, they can create an environment where people grow without undue pressure, fostering both inspiration and development.

“The KPI is a framework that goes beyond the question of right or wrong, good or bad. It provides you a 3D view of your strengths as motivators and examines how deeply held attachments can keep us stuck in a polarized view – shedding light on why navigating these paradoxical tensions is often easier said than done.”
